So, we decided for various reasons that it's probably a good idea to keep 3 bedrooms in the house, but that meant I had nowhere to work. We decided to look into installing a garden office for me, to be my she-cave on retirement, but would allow me to work from home for however long I'm going to need to for the next few months. We don't know when bedroom 3 needs to be available again, but we decided that we'd make a pre-emptive strike. I'd already booked holiday in November with a view to sorting out bedroom no 3/Jackie's office, so it seemed reasonable to divert the opportunity slightly.
Given the garden space available, we were looking at something in the range of 3 m by 2.5 m, waist high windows and French doors or similar. There were many options and I'd virtually settled on a slightly bigger option that included the base being built and full installation before deciding that was a bit more than we really wanted to spend (~£7k) and the timing wasn't great (earliest possible delivery March 2021) and looked in to other options. We found a self-installation option and asked my big brother ('s other half) about the specifications of their summerhouse and realised it was the same company. So we bit the bullet and ordered the "Terminator" (stupid name) from DunsterHouse for full self installation (~£3.2k), Eek. We ordered the RapidGrid base system to build our base and were expecting delivery in 4-6 weeks. Then I had a phone call to say they could deliver in my planned week off... gulp. We first realised that we'd need to dig back what had previously been the not-particularly-successful greenhouse/polytunnel/teepee arrangement that we'd dismantled and chucked out over the summer and replaced with the raised bed and tortoise run.
