Nice sunny day today, so no excuse not to get the shingle down. A quick reccie and trample of the grids from last night, then we could put it off no longer. It was the trusty wheelbarrow's time to shine... We started from the front right corner and filled along the front edge first. One barrowfull per two tiles ish. We either used some timber, or feet - whichever fit best - to level the edges of the tiles between rows. It actually filled remarkably quickly. Dave was in charge of distribution, and was able to make some adjustments to levels as we went. About an hour did it, at least to where we could run a plank across the site and be relatively happy it was level enough. Both front corners are going to need keeping an eye on I think, as shingle squeezes forwards, but there's not a lot we can do about that. ![]() Now the exciting point, some actual cabin building. Bearers down first, then the first layer of logs, so time to uncover the pile on the drive. We screwed the first layer of front and back logs to the bearers, then the first set of side logs went on. The other bearers were laid roughly in position, but the next thing was to get it square and level. Turns out the diagonals needed to be 3.8 m. A bit of jiggery pokery and additional levelling was required, then we screwed in the first set of single bearers from each end when we were happy it was square, checked it again, then went ahead with the rest of the bearers. More shingle was required to level out any little drops and while Dave was doing that, I started lugging logs from the drive. Once I got my head around which way the tongue and groove worked, I stopped putting them on upside down and having to turn them over. After that, progress was rapid - just a case of working out which logs to fetch from the drive. Everything was accessible and identifiable quite easily - I don't know if the packing order/unloading order is deliberate for that, but if not, we've been quite lucky. We got to the point where you have to start about fitting window and door frames and called it a day. I forgot to take a photo, which is why it's so dark.
